A former military base, previously home to an army reserve center and a caretaker's house, will be up for auction as a potential residential redevelopment opportunity.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) will auction the property on London Road in Camberley on November 7, with a guide price set at £850,000. According to an MoD spokesperson, the site is considered “surplus to defence requirements” and its sale aligns with the ministry’s broader strategy to downsize its estate.
The property is being promoted as a development site suitable for new homes. The main building features a large hall, six rooms, a kitchen, two toilets, and a mezzanine with two additional rooms. The caretaker's house comes equipped with four bedrooms, two reception rooms, a kitchen, and a bathroom.
The site has been listed as a disposal property by the MoD since at least 2018, as revealed through a freedom of information request. In May 2023, it was added to the Electronic Property Information Mapping Service (ePIMS), a platform that allows public bodies to express interest in available government property and land.
In June 2024, property consultants Montagu Evans advised the MoD to auction the site, a recommendation reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service. Photo by David Howard, Wikimedia commons.
