More than 200 firefighters have responded to a significant fire at a high-rise tower block in Dagenham, east London, which is partly occupied by residents.
The fire, which broke out shortly before 3:00 a.m. (0200GMT), led to the evacuation of at least 100 people from the residential building.
The London Ambulance Service reported that four individuals were treated at the scene, with two of them being transported to the hospital for further care.
"We were called at 2:52 a.m. today (26 August) to reports of a fire on Freshwater Road in Dagenham," a spokesperson stated. "We dispatched a large number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, incident response officers, a critical care paramedic, emergency planning officers, a command support vehicle, and members of our hazardous area response team."
The London Fire Brigade confirmed the scale of the response on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Twenty fire engines and around 125 firefighters are responding to a fire on Freshwater Road in Dagenham."
Fire station commander Alan Bendell noted the fire was producing heavy smoke, advising local residents to keep their windows and doors closed for safety.
