In Dorchester, Dorset, tensions are escalating between parents and local residents over chaotic school run parking situations near St Osmund's and Manor Park schools

on Barnes Way.

Parents vying for prime parking spots have caused traffic chaos, resorting to illegal parking maneuvers such as blocking driveways, parking on grass verges, and obstructing corners. Frustrated homeowners have resorted to installing 40 wooden stakes along the verges to curb these violations.

Residents have reported confrontations with parents, describing verbal abuse and instances of vehicles damaging property, including knocking off wing mirrors. There are even allegations of physical altercations involving police intervention.

In response to the ongoing clashes, Dorset Town Council is proposing a ban on waiting along Barnes Way during peak school hours, from 08:00 to 09:00 and 15:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday. Councillor Molly Rennie emphasized the necessity of enforcing these measures to prevent further chaos and ensure safety.

The situation worsened after the closure of a nearby school car park due to safety concerns, exacerbating parking issues in the neighborhood. Residents have expressed concerns over emergency access and the impact on local traffic during inclement weather.

While some residents support measures like installing wooden posts to deter illegal parking, others feel these actions are excessive. Nonetheless, with over 1,000 pupils attending the nearby schools, the congestion remains a pressing issue that demands a balanced resolution to accommodate both parents and residents alike.
