Approximately 1,500 workers at Tata Steel's Port Talbot and Llanwern sites have suspended a planned indefinite strike and overtime ban following the company's

agreement to engage in negotiations about future investments, the Unite trade union announced on Monday.

The workers were set to begin their strike on July 8 in response to Tata Steel's plans to shut down two blast furnaces and cut up to 2,800 jobs in Wales. An overtime ban had already been initiated on June 17.

"This is a significant development in the battle to protect jobs and the long-term future of steelmaking in South Wales," said Unite general secretary Sharon Graham. "It is essential that these talks progress swiftly and in good faith with the focus on fresh investment and ensuring the long-term continuation of steelmaking in South Wales."
