British Queen celebrates

A tragic incident occurred on Saturday, August 12, as at least six Afghan migrants lost their lives in an attempt to reach the United Kingdom via the English Channel. Their boat capsized during

the journey, leading to a rescue operation that saved 59 survivors. French authorities reported this unfortunate event, emphasizing that the exact death toll is still being determined.

The frequency of Channel crossings has seen an increase in recent days. On Saturday alone, 509 migrants were identified making their way to the English coast using makeshift boats. This surge follows the highest daily count this year, with 756 migrants detected on the preceding Thursday. It's important to note that these figures represent only those apprehended upon arrival in the UK.

Despite the challenges presented by the perilous Strait of Dover, 2022 witnessed a record-breaking year with 45,000 individuals attempting the crossing. The peak of this trend was reached on August 22, when 1,295 migrants were intercepted on 27 boats. Although favorable weather conditions usually correspond with higher numbers, crossing attempts are made throughout the year, even during the colder months.

Comparing 2023's statistics with those of 2022 reveals similar patterns in the number of migrants crossing the Channel. The cumulative data for migrants arriving by boat on the British coast indicates the ongoing nature of this issue. Tragedies at sea, like the one on August 12, remind us of the risks undertaken by those seeking a better life and the challenges faced by authorities trying to ensure their safety.
