A fire in a building close to Glasgow Central Station has triggered widespread disruption to rail services, forcing cancellations and the temporary closure of one of Scotland’s busiest

transport hubs.

Rail operator National Rail confirmed that dozens of train services were cancelled after the incident, warning passengers that the station would remain closed until further notice. In an update posted on X, the organization said significant travel disruption is expected to continue throughout Monday.

According to earlier reports from BBC, the blaze began at a vape shop located near the station. The fire reportedly caused part of the building to collapse, raising safety concerns in the surrounding area.

The emergency response began on Sunday afternoon. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said crews were first alerted at 3:46 p.m. local time to reports of a fire affecting the ground floor of a four-storey commercial building.

Firefighters quickly attended the scene and worked to control the blaze, while authorities moved to secure the area and assess structural damage.

Scotland’s First Minister, John Swinney, expressed concern about the incident and praised the emergency teams responding to the situation.

“I am deeply concerned about the fire near Glasgow Central Station tonight and very grateful to all of the emergency services who are responding,” he said.
