British Queen celebrates

Daniel Maguire, a leading figure in global financial markets and risk management, has been awarded the prestigious Freedom of the City of London in recognition of his outstanding contribution

to the UK’s financial services industry.

Maguire, who serves as Group Head of the Markets Division at London Stock Exchange Group and Chief Executive of LCH Group, received the honour following a nomination by Susan Langley, the Lady Mayor of the City of London Corporation, together with former Lord Mayor Alastair King.

With a career spanning more than 25 years, Maguire has played a key role in strengthening the global reputation of the UK’s financial markets. His work has focused on improving the resilience, transparency and efficiency of clearing and post-trade infrastructure — a crucial foundation of London’s financial ecosystem. Industry peers credit him with helping ensure that important segments of the international derivatives market continue to operate from the UK, reinforcing London’s status as a trusted and innovative global financial hub.

Speaking about the recognition, Maguire described the moment as “very special”, highlighting the collective efforts of the teams and institutions that support the City’s financial leadership.

Beyond his professional work, Maguire is also known in the Square Mile for his strong support of defence initiatives and the armed forces community. He actively backs military units, veterans’ employment programmes and service charities, while promoting awareness of the defence sector’s role in safeguarding national security and economic stability.

The Freedom of the City of London is one of the capital’s oldest civic traditions, believed to date back to 1237. Historically, the honour granted individuals the right to conduct their trade within the City. Today, it is awarded by the City of London Corporation to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to London, public life or their profession.

Recent recipients of the honour include Academy Award-winning actor and humanitarian Cate Blanchett, Royal Academy President Rebecca Salter, former Chindit soldier Sidney Machin, and mental health campaigner and former professional boxer Frank Bruno.

Lady Mayor Langley praised Maguire as an “outstanding ambassador for the financial services sector”, noting that his leadership has helped maintain London’s standing at the centre of the global financial system. Photo by Linkedin.
