The United Kingdom has revealed that four previously undisclosed military maintenance facilities are currently operating inside Ukraine, providing crucial repair and
servicing for armoured vehicles and other battlefield equipment used in the ongoing war against Russia.
According to the British Ministry of Defence, the facilities are staffed by a mix of British and Ukrainian personnel and operate under contracts issued by the UK government. Their primary mission is to keep Western-supplied military equipment functioning on the front lines as Ukraine continues to defend itself against Russian forces.
The announcement marks the first public acknowledgment that such repair hubs are functioning within Ukraine itself.
British Defence Readiness and Industry Minister Luke Pollard said the initiative demonstrates the UK’s long-term commitment to supporting Ukraine’s military capability.
“From the factory floor to the frontline, the UK is standing with Ukraine,” Pollard said in a statement. “Our pioneering facilities are helping keep Ukraine’s defiant armed forces in the fight against the brutal attacks of Vladimir Putin.”
Pollard added that British defence companies are also expanding industrial cooperation with Ukrainian firms, a move aimed at strengthening long-term military production capabilities in Ukraine while deepening economic ties between the two nations.
Equipment being repaired
The British Defence Ministry confirmed that the facilities are currently servicing several pieces of UK-donated military equipment, including:
- CVR(T) armoured reconnaissance vehicles
- Husky tactical support vehicles
- L119 light artillery guns
- AS-90 self-propelled artillery systems
By repairing equipment inside Ukraine rather than transporting it abroad, the process significantly reduces downtime and allows Ukrainian forces to return damaged systems to the battlefield faster.
Additional facility planned
The ministry also confirmed that a fifth maintenance facility is already being planned, indicating that Britain expects the repair program to expand as the war continues.
Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, the UK has become one of Ukraine’s most significant military supporters. London has pledged more than £21.8 billion (about $29.2 billion) in total assistance, covering military aid, financial support, and humanitarian assistance.
