A much-loved Buckinghamshire pub is preparing to pull its final pint this weekend, prompting an outpouring of sadness from loyal customers.
The White Horse on London End in Beaconsfield has confirmed that Sunday, January 11, will be its last day of trading. Staff say the pub will remain open until the end of service on Sunday evening and have urged regulars to come in for one last visit before the doors close for good.
In a message shared with customers, the team acknowledged that news of the closure had already begun circulating locally. They thanked the community for its long-standing support and said they would be “delighted to serve a final pint or two” to anyone able to stop by before the shutters come down.
The announcement has been met with heartbreak from locals, many of whom took to social media to share memories of the pub. One customer wrote: “Very sad. You will be so missed as a superb pub run by a wonderful bunch of people. Thank you for all the good times.” Another added: “Noooooo! One of the few local pubs with plenty of space, decent food and lovely staff. It’ll be missed.”
The White Horse is owned by the Brunning and Price pub group, which operates around 81 pubs across the UK, including well-known venues such as The Rowbarge in Woolhampton and The Horse & Groom in Twyford.
While no official reason has been given for the closure, customers have been directed towards nearby sister pubs, suggesting that Beaconsfield drinkers will still have Brunning and Price options within reach.
The closure marks the end of an era for the Beaconsfield site and comes at a challenging time for the hospitality sector. The British Beer & Pub Association has recently called for urgent talks with ministers over the future of pubs, ahead of a new package of support measures expected to be unveiled next week.
