Security has been significantly strengthened around RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, where the United States maintains a major military presence, with armed police, roadblocks and
emergency vehicles deployed around the base, according to a Reuters witness.
The heightened security measures have been visible in recent days, with access roads blocked and armed officers restricting movement around the installation. Emergency vehicles have also been positioned nearby.
The US Air Force confirmed that it was aware of reports about the increased security but declined to provide details about specific force-protection measures.
A spokesperson for the US Air Force said the 501st Combat Support Wing and other US units based in Britain remained on alert and would take whatever steps were considered necessary to protect American personnel, civilian employees, contractors and their families.
US forces regularly review security conditions and adjust protective measures according to a range of factors, the spokesperson said.
The increased security comes amid heightened tensions between Washington, Tehran and London. In July, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned against allowing US bombers to operate from British military facilities, specifically identifying Fairford as a base used for US missions against Iran.
British authorities subsequently said the country's armed forces were prepared to respond to any attack and highlighted the UK's air and missile defence capabilities, including assets operated by the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force.
Iranian officials have also previously described Britain as a potential target if London provides military support to US operations against Tehran.
RAF Fairford, located in Gloucestershire, has long served as an important base for US strategic aviation operations in Europe. Its role in recent military operations against Iran has made the installation a particular focus amid the current regional tensions.
