French defence technology company Alta Ares has raised €50 million in its latest funding round, as investors pour capital into technologies designed to counter the growing use of drones in

modern warfare, particularly in Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.

The Paris-based startup said the new investment comes amid rapidly increasing demand for air defence solutions, driven by the widespread deployment of low-cost, mass-produced drones that have become a defining feature of the conflict in Ukraine. These systems are also reshaping military strategies across other active conflict zones.

Chief executive Hadrien Canter confirmed that the company had previously completed a €2 million funding round in May 2025. He added that the fresh capital will primarily be used to scale up production capacity and accelerate international expansion.

Alta Ares develops AI-enabled munitions designed to intercept and neutralise aerial threats, including drones, missiles, and glide bombs. The company says its interceptor systems are already in operational use across Ukraine, parts of the Middle East, and Asia.

Looking ahead, the startup plans to expand its footprint into key defence markets including Poland, Germany, and the United States, as European and American venture capital firms joined the latest funding round.
