British Queen celebrates

The UK and Switzerland have agreed to extend the existing Services Mobility Agreement (SMA) for another four years, ensuring it remains in place until 31 December 2029.

Announced by the Department for Business and Trade and The Rt Hon Peter Kyle MP on 28 October 2025, this extension provides continuity and certainty for businesses and service providers in both countries as negotiations continue toward a permanent arrangement under a future Free Trade Agreement.

The SMA enables UK professionals to travel to Switzerland and deliver services visa-free for up to 90 days each year, without facing economic interest tests or needing work permits during that period.

In return, Swiss professionals can come to the UK under the service supplier visa, allowing them to provide contracted services in a range of key skilled sectors for up to 12 months. This arrangement supports vital industries including finance, consultancy, legal services, technology, and the creative sectors, reinforcing strong bilateral trade ties between the two countries.
