British Queen celebrates

Prime Minister Keir Starmer aims to bolster UK economic growth through strategic meetings in Berlin and Paris, emphasizing his commitment to the British

people’s interests. This week, he will engage with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to initiate discussions on a new UK-Germany bilateral treaty anticipated to enhance business, deepen security cooperation, and address illegal migration.

During his visit, Starmer plans to meet German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and assert his dedication to strengthening post-Brexit relationships, which will ultimately benefit citizens in both nations. Germany, noted as Europe’s economic leader and the UK's second-largest trade partner, plays a pivotal role in these discussions.

Starmer’s agenda in Berlin includes a meeting with Dr. Christian Bruch, CEO of Siemens Energy, underscoring the significance of their technology in global energy and their substantial employment footprint in the UK. The visit is part of a broader effort to attract investments and create skilled jobs throughout the UK.

The Prime Minister will also meet Armin Theodor Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall, which is integral to the British Army’s modernization efforts, highlighting recent investments in the UK that support local employment.

Following discussions in Germany, Starmer will proceed to Paris to attend the Paralympics Opening Ceremony and engage with French business leaders. These meetings are part of his objective to strengthen economic ties with France, the UK's fourth-largest trading partner.

In statements, Starmer expressed a vision for a reinvigorated relationship with Europe, focusing on resolving issues left by Brexit and enhancing partnerships that are mutually beneficial, particularly in areas like migration, economic growth, and security.

The proposed UK-Germany treaty represents a significant step in these efforts, aiming for an ambitious partnership by early 2025. This treaty is expected to cover critical areas such as market access, innovation, clean energy, and environmental cooperation, marking a milestone in UK-European relations.
