A fire erupted at a 10-storey construction site in east London, leading to seven people being hospitalized. The blaze broke out near Silvertown Way in Canning Town shortly after 08:20 BST,

prompting a response from ten fire engines and approximately 70 firefighters, according to the London Fire Brigade (LFB).

One individual was rescued from the second floor of the building. Seven people were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation, and an additional three were treated at the scene, the LFB reported.

The incident occurred at the construction site where the ground floor of a commercial unit ignited. Video footage from the scene showed thick black smoke billowing between high-rise buildings.

An LFB spokesperson stated, "The fire has been producing significant amounts of smoke. People in the area are advised to keep windows and doors closed and avoid the area where possible." The spokesperson also mentioned that one of the brigade's 64m ladders had been deployed.

Firefighters from Plaistow, Poplar, East Ham, and nearby stations responded to the incident. Due to the fire, the A1011 Silvertown Way has been closed between the A13 Canning Town Flyover and Hallsville Road.

The LFB received over 30 calls reporting the fire, but the cause of the blaze is not yet known. Photo by Chris Sampson, Wikimedia commons.
