Morrisons has issued an urgent recall of its own-brand Taleggio cheese due to concerns about potential contamination with listeria bacteria.
Customers are advised not to consume The Best Taleggio in 200g packs with a use-by date of 14 April. They are requested to return the product to Morrisons stores for a full refund.
According to a statement from the Food Standards Agency, symptoms of listeria infection can resemble flu-like symptoms and may include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, nausea, and diarrhoea. In rare cases, the infection can lead to more severe complications such as meningitis.
Morrisons is actively recalling the affected product, and point-of-sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores selling this product, informing customers about the recall and providing guidance on what to do if they have purchased the product.
Individuals more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years old, pregnant women and their unborn babies, infants under one month old, and people with weakened immune systems, are advised to take particular caution.
A spokesperson from Morrisons emphasized the importance of not consuming the recalled product and urged customers to return it to the nearest store for a full refund, regardless of whether they have a receipt. The company assured customers of its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of product quality and safety.
