The British Embassy in Phnom Penh celebrated the 78th birthday of King Charles III with a reception attended by nearly 400 guests, underscoring the growing partnership between the
United Kingdom and Cambodia.
Held at the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh on June 3, the event brought together senior government officials, diplomats, business leaders, educators and representatives from civil society. This year's celebration was themed “Celebrating the Four Nations of the United Kingdom,” showcasing the culture, traditions and cuisine of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The reception served not only as a tribute to the British monarch but also as a platform to highlight the broad scope of UK-Cambodia cooperation, including education, trade, development and people-to-people exchanges.
British Ambassador Dominic Williams MBE welcomed guests and emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral relations.
“Tonight, we celebrate the birthday of His Majesty The King and thank our friends and partners for helping bring the UK and Cambodia closer together,” he said. “It is also an opportunity to celebrate the rich diversity of the United Kingdom through its traditions, culture and cuisine.”
Ambassador Williams also acknowledged ongoing concerns surrounding tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border, reaffirming the United Kingdom’s support for efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace.
The event’s Guest of Honour was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, who praised the enduring friendship between the two countries.
“This historic celebration provides an opportunity to reflect on the strong bonds of friendship and expanding cooperation between Cambodia and the United Kingdom,” he said. “Our partnership is built on mutual trust, shared values and constructive collaboration across many areas of common interest.”
Dr. Hang expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to deepen, contributing to peace, prosperity and sustainable development for both nations.
The embassy also recognized the support of its corporate and institutional partners, whose contributions helped make the event possible.
