British Queen celebrates

Passengers flying out early from London Luton Airport this February half term can now enjoy a smoother start to their journey, thanks to a brand-new evening bag

drop service launched by Wizz Air.

From 16 February, travellers on Wizz Air flights departing up to 9am will be able to check in and drop off their hold luggage the night before. The new “twilight” bag drop service will operate seven days a week between 9pm and 2am, helping passengers avoid early-morning queues and reduce stress on departure day.

Wizz Air becomes the third airline to introduce an evening check-in option at the airport, following similar launches by easyJet and Jet2 earlier this year.

Busy half term ahead at LLA

The new service arrives as the airport prepares for a busy February half term, with around 325,000 passengers expected to travel through the terminal over the week. A wide range of destinations is on offer, from culture-packed European city breaks to winter sun and Alpine escapes.

With Valentine’s weekend approaching, romantic favourites such as Amsterdam, Bologna and Paris are proving especially popular. Classic city break destinations including Berlin, Budapest, Lisbon, Prague and Seville are also among the top choices.

For travellers craving mountain scenery, Jet2 is launching new direct flights from Luton to Geneva from 14 February, opening up easy access to the Alps.

Meanwhile, sun seekers are continuing to favour destinations such as Palma de Mallorca, Murcia and Malaga, alongside Turkish hotspots Antalya and Dalaman. The Canary Islands’ Lanzarote and Portugal’s Madeira are also in high demand.

Focus on passenger experience

Clare Armstrong, Head of Guest Experience at London Luton Airport, commented: “February half term provides the perfect opportunity to take a well-earned break and to escape the notorious British weather that we typically see this time of year. As ever, our teams will be working hard to deliver a simple and friendly passenger experience to all those travelling from the airport, from Valentine’s couples heading off for a romantic getaway, to families searching for sunshine and solo travellers exploring new regions. The launch of another twilight check-in service will mean even more passengers can get their travels off to the swiftest and simplest start and follows another hugely exciting year for LLA, with continued investment in passenger facilities, new shops and restaurants and record customer satisfaction scores achieved. We are all set for another busy and exciting week, and we’re thrilled to see so many passengers choosing LLA as the starting point for their travels.”

More routes on the way

Looking ahead to the spring and summer, Wizz Air will introduce new low-cost routes from Luton to Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Valencia and Seville from 29 March. Jet2 will also expand its network from 21 May with new services to Corfu, Kos, Preveza, Skiathos and Menorca.

With demand continuing to grow, the airport says it is ready for another lively holiday period — and keen to make the journey as smooth as possible from the moment passengers arrive. Photo by fr:Utilisateur:Steff, Wikimedia commons.
