British Queen celebrates

While many royals make a point of attending the Summer Olympic Games, far fewer regularly appear at the Winter Olympics. However, with the Milano Cortina

2026 Games approaching, several European royals gathered in Italy to help kick off the next Olympic chapter.

The Princess Royal is representing the British Royal Family at events connected to the 2026 Winter Olympics, accompanied by her husband, Sir Tim Laurence. Princess Anne attended a reception ahead of the Opening Ceremonies and later shared a message of support for Team GB on social media.

“As your competitions begin, know that you will have the support of the nation. On behalf of us all, I wish you the very best of luck.”

Princess Anne has been a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 1988 and previously competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics as an equestrian.

She was joined by Prince Albert II of Monaco, who is also an IOC member and a former Olympic athlete. Prince Albert competed in both two-man and four-man bobsleigh for Monaco between 1988 and 2002.

Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg, an IOC member since 1988, was also in attendance.

The Dutch Royal Family made a particularly visible showing, with King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, and Princess Catharina-Amalia cheering on Dutch athletes.
