Suella Braverman, the Home Office minister, chaired the inaugural gathering of the Jewish Community Crime, Policing, and Security Taskforce. The meeting, held on Tuesday, brought together
senior representatives from the Community Security Trust (CST), the Home Secretary, Minister for Policing Chris Philp, senior police leaders, and Home Office officials. The discussions aimed to address policing issues affecting the Jewish community and find positive and practical solutions.
One of the key topics of discussion was the improvement of outcomes concerning hate crimes. There has been widespread concern within the community that incidents of antisemitism in recent years have not resulted in prosecutions. The task force meeting sought to address this issue and explore ways to enhance Jewish communal security and combat antisemitism through collaborative efforts between CST, policing leaders, and the Home Office.
Following the meeting, Suella Braverman took to Twitter, stating, "Today I chaired the first meeting of our new Jewish Community Crime, Policing and Security Taskforce. Together with CST and policing leaders, we discussed how to enhance Jewish communal security and the police's work to combat antisemitism."
In preparation for the meeting, Mark Gardner, CST's Chief Executive, and Dave Rich, Head of Policy, consulted with major communal organizations to ensure that concerns were raised during the task force gathering. The establishment of the task force was announced by the Home Secretary earlier this year during her speech at CST's annual dinner in central London.
Recent incidents such as the Oxford Street Chanukah bus attack and the Palestine car convoy on the Finchley Road have raised community concerns after charges were dropped or suspects were not convicted by the police. The task force aims to address these issues and work towards a safer and more secure environment for the Jewish community. Photo by UK Government, Wikimedia commons.
