British Queen celebrates

Thousands lined up for hours in Richmond, Virginia, eager to hear from former President Donald Trump as he claimed victories in several Republican presidential contests on Saturday.

With wins in Missouri, Michigan, and Idaho, Trump moves closer to securing the party's nomination for the November election while intensifying attacks on his likely opponent, Joe Biden.

Addressing supporters at a rally in Virginia, Trump expressed confidence in his momentum, declaring himself "on a rocket to the Republican nomination." His dominant performance in key states positions him to clinch the nomination as early as next week, leaving his sole remaining rival, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, struggling to gain traction.

Trump's victories in Missouri and Idaho, along with a substantial lead in Michigan, underscore his commanding position within the party. His projected delegate wins further solidify his path to the nomination, with Trump securing 247 Republican delegates compared to Haley's 24, according to CBS News.

In Richmond, thousands queued for hours to hear Trump speak, energized by his promises of victory in the upcoming Super Tuesday primaries. His message, focusing largely on immigration issues at the US-Mexico border, resonated strongly with his base, reflecting concerns voiced by supporters interviewed by the BBC.

Trump intensified his attacks on Biden, attributing the border crisis to his policies and alleging a conspiracy to manipulate migrant votes. The Biden campaign swiftly refuted these claims, accusing Trump of diversion tactics and highlighting his failures in border security.

A recent New York Times and Siena poll showed Trump leading Biden by 48% to 43% in a hypothetical match-up, indicating significant dissatisfaction with the current president across party lines. Despite this, the poll also revealed substantial support for Haley in a contest against Biden, posing a potential challenge for Trump within the party.

In his speech, Trump criticized Haley and called for her withdrawal from the race, urging Republicans to unite for the general election. While Haley remains determined to continue her campaign, former supporters at the Trump rally expressed diminishing enthusiasm for her candidacy.

With Super Tuesday looming, Trump rallied his supporters to deliver a decisive victory and set the stage for a historic November election.
