According to a statement by British Armed Forces Minister James Heappey on Monday (March 20), Britain is willing to assist Poland in filling the air defence gaps created by Warsaw's decision
to send some of its MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. However, Poland has not yet made any requests for assistance.
Poland recently announced that it would be sending four MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine, making it the first of Kyiv's allies to do so. This move could potentially create a need for Poland to increase its air defence equipment.
Heappey stated that Britain is prepared to help fill any gaps in Poland's air defence, as it has done in the past when Poland sent T-72 main battle tanks to Ukraine. The British government provided Warsaw with Challenger 2 tanks.
Heappey further stated that the British government would be receptive to any requests from Poland to fill the gaps that have arisen in their air defence. However, it is important to note that Poland has not yet made any such request.
