Singapore-based Kuok Group is evaluating plans to invest up to €5.3 billion in a major hyperscale data center campus in northern Italy, marking one of the country's largest proposed digital

infrastructure projects.

Italy's Industry Minister Adolfo Urso announced the proposal on Friday following a meeting in Rome with representatives from K2 Strategic, Kuok Group's digital infrastructure division. During the talks, the company presented plans for a hyperscale data center campus to be built on the southern outskirts of Milan.

According to the ministry, the project would have a total capacity of approximately 300 megawatts. Investment in the development and long-term operation of the facility could reach as much as €5.3 billion ($6 billion).

The proposal comes as Italy experiences growing demand for data center capacity. Earlier this month, Lombardy regional councilor Massimo Sertori told Reuters that investments in the sector could total around €22 billion over the next five years, driven by increasing demand for digital infrastructure.

To support the expansion of strategic projects, Minister Urso and Lombardy President Attilio Fontana recently established a joint working group aimed at accelerating permitting procedures and reviewing applications for projects seeking designation as being of national strategic interest.

If approved, the Kuok Group investment would further strengthen Lombardy's position as Italy's leading hub for hyperscale data center development. Photo by Erwin Son from Singapore, Singapore, Wikimedia commons.
