British Queen celebrates

The United Kingdom has pledged more than £5 million (about $6.6 million) in emergency assistance to support humanitarian efforts in Lebanon, as rising tensions in the region place increasing

pressure on the country.

On Sunday, Yvette Cooper, the UK’s foreign secretary, said the funding would help the Lebanese government respond to urgent humanitarian needs created by the ongoing regional conflict.

“Today, I am mobilising over £5 million in emergency funding,” Cooper said in a statement. The funds will be directed to key aid organizations including the Lebanese Red Cross, the UN Lebanon Humanitarian Fund, and the World Food Programme, which are working alongside the Lebanese government to assist vulnerable communities.

The announcement comes as security tensions along Lebanon’s border continue to raise concerns about a wider regional escalation.

Cooper also strongly criticized attacks carried out by Hezbollah against Israel, calling for the violence to stop. She said the actions of the group — which the UK designates as a terrorist organization — risk pulling Lebanon into a broader conflict.

“The actions of this proscribed terrorist group, at the instigation of the Iranian regime, are once again drawing the people of Lebanon into a conflict they do not want and which is not in their interests,” Cooper said.

The foreign secretary emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation. In recent days, she has held talks with Nawaf Salam, Gideon Sa'ar, and partners across Europe and the United States to coordinate responses to the crisis.

Cooper also welcomed steps taken by the Government of Lebanon, including a decision to prohibit Hezbollah’s military activities. She said the UK will continue supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces and the Lebanese government as they work to take full responsibility for the country’s security.
