Ukrainian defence manufacturer Fire Point has appointed former U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to a newly created advisory board, a move the company says is intended to strengthen
governance as it faces scrutiny from anti-corruption investigators.
Fire Point, best known for producing the FP-1 drone that has played a central role in Ukraine’s long-range strikes against Russia, said the appointment reflects its push to “align our governance framework with leading international standards.” Pompeo, who led the U.S. State Department from 2018 to 2021 under then-President Donald Trump, will serve as a senior adviser.
The company has also developed the Flamingo cruise missile, which Ukraine hopes to scale up as part of its expanding domestic arms production. Fire Point is currently under investigation by Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies over allegations of inflated pricing, according to reporting by the Kyiv Independent. The company did not address the probe in its announcement.
“Secretary Pompeo’s strategic insights and deep understanding of global affairs will be invaluable as we continue to grow and strengthen our governance practices,” Fire Point said in a statement.
The firm plans to begin building a rocket-fuel plant in Denmark in the coming months, Denmark’s defence minister has said.
Crackdowns on corruption and stronger corporate oversight are central to Kyiv’s efforts to secure additional Western military and financial support as the war with Russia enters its fourth year.
