British Queen celebrates

Ukraine will begin importing natural gas from Greece to bolster its energy reserves for the coming winter, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Sunday,

as the country races to counter the impact of sustained Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure.

“We have prepared an agreement with Greece on supplying gas to Ukraine, creating an additional route to secure winter imports as reliably as possible,” Zelenskiy said in a statement posted on the Telegram messaging app.

He added that Kyiv has lined up nearly 2 billion euros ($2.3 billion) in financing to cover the cost of gas imports and offset losses in domestic production caused by Russian strikes. Moscow has intensified attacks on power plants, transmission lines and gas facilities as the conflict enters its fourth year.

The announcement came ahead of Zelenskiy’s visit to Greece on Sunday, before further stops in France and Spain.

According to the president, Ukraine has allocated funds for gas purchases through European partners and banks under European Commission guarantees, with additional support from Ukrainian financial institutions. Kyiv is also working with U.S. partners to secure full financing.

Zelenskiy noted that Ukraine is expanding its winter supply routes via Poland, where it is cooperating with Azerbaijan and seeking to conclude long-term contracts. Photo by Sajmon~commonswiki, Wikimedia commons.
