IKEA has launched its first-ever standalone Swedish restaurant in the UK, making it easier for fans to enjoy their signature meatballs without the need to visit a full-sized IKEA store.
The new restaurant has opened on King Street in Hammersmith, London, conveniently located near the brand’s recently revamped Hammersmith City Store.
The menu features all the beloved classics, such as meatballs with mashed potatoes, peas, cream sauce, and lingonberry jam—available in both meat and vegan options. The restaurant also offers fish and chips, penne pasta with tomato and basil sauce, salmon with couscous, and a children’s menu. Breakfast is also available, starting at just 60p, and includes a variety of items like cooked breakfasts and breakfast rolls.
The interior of the new restaurant stays true to IKEA's minimalist style, featuring light wooden tables and simple blue chairs. Diners can order at the counter or use self-service screens for convenience. Market Manager Matthew Gould expressed his excitement about the opening, stating, “Fans of our delicious dishes can recharge during their shopping trip with our famous Swedish meatballs, pop in for a traditional Swedish ‘fika’ break for coffee and a sweet treat, or find an affordable meal for the kids right on the high street.”
Highlights of the menu include:
- Breakfast (served until 11 am): Small cooked breakfast for £2.75, regular cooked breakfast for £3.75, and breakfast rolls for £1.60.
- Main Dishes (served after 11 am): Eight meatballs or plant balls with traditional sides for £5.50, penne pasta for £2.95, fish and chips for £6.95, and hot dogs from 60p.
- Cold Dishes: Options like cured salmon with mustard and dill sauce for £3.50 and a shrimp sandwich for £3.50.
- Children’s Menu: Meals like four meatballs or plant balls with mash and peas for £1.95.
To celebrate the opening, IKEA is offering a special deal: IKEA Family members who spend over £5 at the restaurant will receive a £5 voucher for in-store purchases on the same day. This promotion is valid until November 30, making it a great time for shoppers to grab that long-awaited home item.
The opening comes amidst other recent updates from IKEA. The brand has teased a playful marketing campaign on social media, humorously addressing rumors that their delivery boxes smell like meatballs. Customers have eagerly engaged, speculating on what the marketing might reveal.
In recent months, IKEA has made several changes to enhance convenience for UK shoppers. They have partnered with Tesco to establish over 100 mobile pick-up points, with plans to add 100 more. Additionally, new inner-city stores are set to open on London’s Oxford Street and in Brighton, making it easier than ever to get your IKEA home essentials.
