British Queen celebrates

The City of London’s elevated public spaces are experiencing a surge in popularity, with visitor numbers continuing to climb. Since 20 Fenchurch Street's Sky Garden

welcomed its 10 millionth visitor last year, an additional million people have visited, making it one of the world's most visited destinations.

The Square Mile's newest public roof gardens, terraces, and viewing galleries are significantly boosting the City’s footfall. The roof garden at 120 Fenchurch Street, which opened in February 2019, has already seen over 1.5 million visitors. Additionally, 'The Lookout' at 8 Bishopsgate and 'Horizon 22' at 22 Bishopsgate have attracted more than half a million people in less than a year.

These inclusive, free-to-visit vantage points offer exceptional experiences and unique views of London and its landmarks. This diverse range of award-winning and internationally renowned public spaces is driving economic growth and redefining the City as a welcoming, seven-day-a-week destination for all communities.

As public interest in these sites grows, the City Corporation plans to expand these unique viewing experiences. New spaces under construction include:

1 Leadenhall Court

50 Fenchurch Street

Seal House

Millennium Bridge House

Citicape House in Holborn

Shravan Joshi, Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Planning and Transportation Committee, commented:

"The spectacular success of these elevated public spaces demonstrates how tall buildings in the City not only provide the high-quality office space we need but also offer benefits to the community and boost the Square Mile’s economic growth and tourist appeal.

"It’s particularly encouraging to see schoolchildren and local communities enjoying the spaces, giving them a sense of belonging to and involvement in the City, its environment, and its history." Photo by David Hawgood, Wikimedia commons.
