Salesforce announced on Thursday its plans to establish its first flagship artificial intelligence center in the U.K., located in London’s Blue Fin Building. This initiative is part of Salesforce’s
$4 billion investment in the U.K., aimed at bolstering the country's position as a global technology hub.
The newly established center, spanning over 40,000 square feet and capable of accommodating more than 300 individuals, will serve as a collaborative space for tech firms, AI experts, Salesforce partners, and customers. It will also facilitate AI training and upskilling programs, contributing to the creation of an estimated 500,000 AI-related jobs in the U.K.
Scheduled to officially open on June 18, the center will host a free event aimed at training over 100 developers. Salesforce envisions this facility as the first of many globally and expects it to support its U.K. and Ireland business operations. Zahra Bahrololoumi, Salesforce's U.K. and Ireland CEO, will lead the center.
This announcement was made during the Salesforce World Tour event at the London Excel venue, where over 17,500 delegates and customers from various companies, including Aston Martin, McLaren, Just Eat Takeaway, and John Lewis, are expected to gather.
In a statement, Zahra Bahrololoumi expressed Salesforce’s commitment to working closely with customers and partners to harness the transformative potential of AI while ensuring its responsible and ethical use.
The establishment of the AI center is part of Salesforce’s broader investment strategy in the U.K., which includes investments in startups through its venture capital arm, Salesforce Ventures. To date, Salesforce has invested over $200 million in U.K. startups, including AutoGen AI, a procurement platform, and Eleven Labs, specializing in AI-powered text-to-speech and voice generation technology.
Patrick Stokes, executive vice president of product and industries marketing at Salesforce, highlighted the significance of the U.K. as a strategic location for AI development, citing the country's regulatory environment and consumer protection measures as conducive to innovation.
The news of Salesforce's investment comes amidst recent concerns regarding the company's financial performance. Salesforce reported weaker-than-expected fiscal first-quarter revenue and issued guidance below investor expectations. Despite these challenges, the company remains committed to its investments in AI and technology development. Photo by Medullaoblongata Projekt, Wikimedia commons.
