The United Kingdom has pledged to strengthen international efforts to combat antisemitism after hosting representatives of Jewish communities from seven countries in London to discuss

coordinated action against anti-Jewish hatred.

Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband convened the J7 Global Task Force on 12 October, bringing together national Jewish organisations and community representatives from the seven countries with the largest Jewish populations outside Israel. The discussions focused on practical measures to prevent antisemitic incidents, improve cooperation between countries and exchange effective strategies for protecting Jewish communities.

Participants agreed on the importance of closer international coordination and sharing best practices to address antisemitism. The UK also committed to hosting a future ministerial-level meeting of the J7, raising the issue of anti-Jewish hatred to a higher level of international political engagement.

The meeting took place against a backdrop of growing concern over the safety of Jewish communities worldwide. According to the J7’s latest annual report, 2025 was the deadliest year for Jews living outside Israel since 1994. The report also recorded an increase in antisemitic incidents in the UK, highlighting the need for stronger preventive measures and sustained international cooperation.

Miliband stressed that Jewish people must be able to live freely and safely, without facing discrimination, intimidation or violence. He said the increase in antisemitic incidents across several countries required a coordinated response involving governments, community organisations and international partners.

The Foreign Secretary added that the UK intended to play a leading role in efforts to confront antisemitism wherever it occurs, with an emphasis on identifying effective policies and translating international discussions into practical action.

The London meeting forms part of the British government’s broader efforts to protect Jewish communities and address anti-Jewish hatred. Alongside domestic measures to improve security and tackle antisemitic behaviour, the UK is seeking to strengthen cooperation with international partners, promote the exchange of expertise and support initiatives designed to ensure Jewish people can live without fear.
