Londoners planning to travel over the Easter holidays are being urged to check routes in advance, as Transport for London (TfL) prepares for a series of planned engineering works that will
affect parts of the network between 3 and 10 April.
While the majority of Tube services will continue to operate as normal, several lines—including the Bakerloo, District and Hammersmith & City—will see temporary closures or reduced services. The works are part of essential maintenance aimed at ensuring the long-term safety and reliability of the capital’s transport system.
Claire Mann, TfL’s Chief Operating Officer, said the organisation has worked to minimise disruption during the busy holiday period. However, she emphasised that some interruptions are unavoidable. She encouraged passengers to plan ahead and check their journeys before travelling to avoid delays.
Across the wider network, services such as walking and cycling routes, Santander Cycles, the London Cable Car, rental e-scooters and Victoria Coach Station will continue to run as usual throughout Easter.
Passengers are also reminded to use the same payment method—whether Oyster card, contactless, or mobile device—when touching in and out, to ensure correct fares. TfL’s Hopper fare will remain available, allowing unlimited bus and tram journeys within one hour for £1.75.
Key transport changes
London Underground:
The Hammersmith & City line will be fully closed from 3 to 6 April. The Bakerloo line will not operate between Stonebridge Park and Harrow & Wealdstone on 3 and 6 April, with additional weekend closures extending from Queen’s Park to Harrow & Wealdstone.
On the District line, there will be no service between Whitechapel and Upminster, or between Earl’s Court and Kensington (Olympia), over the same period.
Separately, ongoing evening closures continue on the Northern line between Camden Town and Kennington via Bank, Monday to Thursday after 10pm, until late spring.
Elizabeth Line:
Passengers using the Elizabeth line will face reduced services on 5 and 6 April. On Easter Sunday, trains will not run between Paddington and Ealing Broadway early in the morning, and several London stations will be skipped. Services to Heathrow Terminal 4 will also be reduced.
On Easter Monday, reduced services will continue, particularly late in the evening, with some stations again not served.
London Overground:
The Lioness line will see major disruptions, including full closures between Euston and Watford Junction over the weekend, and partial closures on surrounding days.
The Mildmay line will also be affected, with no service between Willesden Junction and Richmond on Easter Sunday, and limited early morning disruption later in the week.
DLR and trams:
Docklands Light Railway services will be suspended between Bank/Tower Gateway and Poplar/West India Quay from 3 to 8 April.
London Trams will not run between Wimbledon and Therapia Lane late on 3 April through to the start of service on 5 April. Replacement buses will be in operation.
Road Closures:
Drivers are also being warned of significant disruption, with the A40 closed in both directions between the Westway roundabout and the Marylebone Flyover. The closure will allow vital structural repairs, and although diversion routes will be in place, delays are expected.
Plan ahead
TfL is advising all passengers to use its Journey Planner or TfL Go app before travelling. With a mix of closures, reduced services and alternative transport options available, careful planning will be key to avoiding disruption during the Easter break. Photo by mattbuck, Wikimedia commons.
