British Queen celebrates

The British government has imposed sanctions on Iranian banker and businessman Aliakbar Ansari, accusing him of providing financial backing to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard

Corps (IRGC).

In announcing the measures on Thursday, Britain’s Middle East minister, Hamish Falconer, condemned the IRGC’s actions, saying its “use of repression and targeted threats to carry out hostile acts, including here in the UK, is completely unacceptable.”

The sanctions form part of London’s continued effort to curb the IRGC’s overseas activities, which Western governments say include intimidation and hostile operations on foreign soil. Photo by Tasnim News Agency, Wikimedia commons.
