The United States has conducted airstrikes on three nuclear facilities in Iran, including the heavily fortified Fordow site, in a move that heightens the risk of regional escalation.
President Donald Trump confirmed the strikes late Saturday, calling them a "very successful attack" in a post on Truth Social. The U.S. targeted nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan, with American aircraft reportedly dropping a "full payload of bombs" before exiting Iranian airspace.
The strike marks a significant escalation in tensions following more than a week of Israeli military action aimed at dismantling Iran’s air defenses. Israeli forces simultaneously launched new attacks Saturday, targeting unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) storage sites and a weapons facility in the southwestern city of Bandar Abbas, according to an Israeli military statement.
Amid rising tensions, a British national was arrested in Cyprus on Saturday on suspicion of espionage and terrorism-related activities. Local reports suggest the individual had been monitoring the RAF Akrotiri base and had alleged connections to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The UK's Foreign Office confirmed it is in contact with Cypriot authorities regarding the arrest.
In preparation for potential operations, the U.S. had recently deployed B-2 stealth bombers capable of delivering "bunker-busting" munitions. Flight data earlier on Saturday indicated that four B-2 bombers had taken off from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri.
