A record-breaking EuroMillions jackpot of £209 million has been claimed by a lucky winner from Austria, marking the biggest-ever prize in the game’s history.
The winning numbers—10, 21, 30, 42, and 45—were drawn on Friday, securing the life-changing amount for one fortunate player. Despite high hopes, UK ticket holders missed out on the massive win.
This latest victory brings Austria’s total EuroMillions wins to 19 since the lottery’s launch, according to the country’s national lottery operator.
The jackpot had rolled over from Tuesday, when no one scooped the £182 million prize, pushing the total to Friday’s record sum.
Previously, the largest EuroMillions prize was £195 million, won by an anonymous player on 19 July 2022. Just two months earlier, in May 2022, Joe and Jess Thwaite from Gloucestershire took home £184 million with a Lucky Dip ticket.
Joe recalled waking up early to an email revealing their win: “I saw how much we’d won and I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t go back to sleep. I just lay there searching for property with no budget limit—it was a novelty!”
Jess, skeptical at first, thought her husband had misread the result or that there was a mistake with the National Lottery. Still in disbelief, she carried on with her usual morning routine until the win was officially confirmed by Camelot.
Reflecting on their win, Jess said, “It gives us time to dream, which we haven’t had before. We now have time to share experiences and go on adventures with our family and friends.”
Among their family’s dreams? A trip to Hawaii and a new horse box to replace their old trailer—wishes that are now well within reach.
While the UK didn’t produce this week’s jackpot winner, EuroMillions fans will no doubt be back for the next draw, hoping to be the next big success story. Photo by Magnus D from London, United Kingdom, Wikimedia commons.
