Fallen Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad and his family are reportedly in Moscow, according to Russian state media.
The TASS news agency, citing a Kremlin source, confirmed that Assad and his family have been granted asylum in the Russian capital.
Speculation about Assad’s whereabouts intensified following reports that he fled Damascus as rebel forces approached the city earlier today.
Russia, a key ally of Assad's regime, acknowledged earlier that the Syrian leader had left the country but initially declined to disclose his destination or confirm whether Moscow had offered him sanctuary. Photo by Meghas, Wikimedia commons.
