South African diplomat highlights challenges in evacuating people from Sudan and urges ceasefire to allow civilians to escape. Speaking on BBC's Newsday program, Foreign Affairs spokesman
Clayson Monyela stated that all routes out of Sudan's capital Khartoum are "risky and dangerous," with the airport still closed and fighting ongoing.
Monyela called for a ceasefire to enable a safe passage for those who want to evacuate and for humanitarian aid to be delivered. He also noted that South African authorities are working tirelessly to evacuate all South African nationals and some neighboring countries' nationals. Photo by Hind Mekki El Mardi, Wikimedia commons.
