Sunflower oil stocks owned by Geneva-based agribusiness Allseeds Switzerland were destroyed in Russian airstrikes near Odessa, the company confirmed on Saturday. One person was killed

and two others injured in the attack, which also caused the loss of thousands of tonnes of oil.

“Allseeds’ facilities at the port of Pivdennyi, about 50 kilometres east of Odessa, were bombed last week, again last night, and once more this morning. Three tanks are still burning,” company director Kees Vrins told the Swiss News Agency Keystone-ATS.

Vrins said it was too early to evaluate the full extent of the damage. “Right now, we’re trying to put the fire out,” he said, adding that neighbouring storage sites had also been hit. The company does not carry insurance for this type of destruction.

The latest strikes mark the eighth time Allseeds’ Ukrainian infrastructure has been targeted since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The firm has operated in Ukraine for 28 years, trading grain as well as sunflower and rapeseed oil. Photo by torange.biz, Wikimedia commons.
