Five children have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of an 80-year-old man who was assaulted while walking his dog in a Leicester park.
Leicestershire Police reported that the elderly man succumbed to his injuries in the hospital after being attacked at Franklin Park in Braunstone Town on Sunday evening. The suspects in custody include a 14-year-old boy and girl, along with another boy and two girls, all aged 12.
The police have launched a murder investigation and are urging witnesses to come forward. The incident occurred near the Bramble Way entrance of the park at approximately 18:30 BST, when the man was seriously assaulted by a group of young people who fled the scene before emergency services arrived.
Following inquiries, five children were detained in connection with the attack.
Due to prior police interactions with the victim, Leicestershire Police will voluntarily refer the case to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC). Detectives have been canvassing the area and are appealing to anyone who was in the park on Sunday evening to provide any information that might assist the investigation.
