British Queen celebrates

The families affected by the actions of British nurse Lucy Letby expressed their quest for answers and the profound emotional turmoil they have endured after she was found

guilty of murdering seven newborns and attempting to murder six others.

Letby, who was in her twenties during the time of the incidents, is now recognized as the most prolific child serial killer in recent British history.

Her case has captured the attention of the United Kingdom as she faced trial for the killings and attempted murders that occurred in the neonatal unit of a hospital in northwest England where she was employed.

In the wake of her conviction at a Manchester court in northern England on Friday, the families issued a collective statement, acknowledging that the true reasons behind these tragic events might never be fully comprehended.

"Experiencing the loss of a baby is a heart-wrenching ordeal that no parent should ever have to endure," they stated. "However, to encounter such circumstances where babies are harmed or lost is beyond imagination."

For legal reasons, the families' identities remain confidential.

The parents of twin boys, subjects of Letby's attempted murders, shared the profound distress they underwent — a rollercoaster journey from the elation of childbirth to the terror of witnessing medical staff fighting to save their infants' lives.

It was only around two years later that they learned about the true extent of the situation when contacted by the police.

"It didn't have to reach such numbers," the father told Sky News, questioning why the hospital administration had not acted sooner to prevent further infants from being harmed. He expressed feeling "greatly disappointed" by the hospital's handling of the situation.

Letby was present during the birth of the twin boys, and the parents recalled their initial joy as first-time parents.

However, the mother grew alarmed when another nurse entered her room and asked her to come downstairs.

The father recounted seeing medical professionals frantically trying to revive his child's failing heart, comparing it to treating a lifeless doll.

"I was overwhelmed with tears," he recounted. "We were in the dark about what was happening." He remembered observing other nurses appearing "deeply concerned and panicked," while Letby remained "composed and collected."

Both twins managed to survive, although one of them suffered some brain damage, leading his parents to worry about potential long-term effects.

The boys' father acknowledged that he has undergone significant change as a result of these events, experiencing sleepless nights and depression.

In response to the case, the government has initiated an independent inquiry to investigate the handling of concerns raised by medical professionals. Photo by Rept0n1x, Wikimedia commons.
