New data reveals that more than 17,000 migrants have arrived in Britain this year after successfully crossing the English Channel. Yesterday alone, 444 individuals completed
the journey in eight boats, equating to an average of approximately 56 people per vessel.
These numbers highlight the ongoing challenge of irregular migration routes. In total, 17,234 individuals have successfully made the journey across the 21-mile Dover Straits in 366 small boats this year.
The situation has been exacerbated by bad weather conditions that caused crop damage and food supply chain disruptions, contributing to the migration surge. As August continues, authorities are preparing for increased crossings during favorable weather conditions, adding to the urgency of addressing the issue.
