British Queen celebrates

In a show of friendship and support, Rishi Sunak warmly embraced Volodymyr Zelensky as they met for talks at the Prime Minister's country residence, Chequers. The Ukrainian president

arrived via Chinook helicopters, and the two leaders exchanged a hug upon greeting each other. Speaking to reporters, Zelensky expressed heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Ukrainian people for the support provided by the UK.

This meeting marks a crucial week in the struggle against Russia, as Sunak emphasized that Zelensky is the first world leader he has hosted at Chequers. The discussions followed Zelensky's recent engagements in Paris with Emmanuel Macron and a summit with EU commission chief Ursula von der Leyen, Polish PM Mateusz Morawiecki, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Aachen.

The UK has announced its commitment to providing air defense missiles and drones to Ukraine, with Sunak set to advocate for further international support during the upcoming G7 gathering in Japan and the Council of Europe meeting in Reykjavik. Last week, it was revealed that the UK became the first country to supply long-range precision missiles to Ukraine. These Storm Shadow cruise missiles, capable of accurately targeting beyond 150 miles, will play a significant role in Ukraine's anticipated counter-offensive against Russian forces.

Sunak pledged to convey a message of solidarity as Ukraine strives to repel Putin's invading forces, emphasizing that the success of Zelensky's efforts is in the interest of all. Following the talks, Sunak stated that they discussed security arrangements among allied countries for Ukraine's long-term defense and effective deterrence against future Russian aggression.

The meeting at Chequers signifies the strong partnership between Ukraine and the UK, with Zelensky mentioning discussions about western fighter jets. He expressed anticipation for important decisions to be made soon, highlighting the need for a coalition involving these jets to regain control of the skies. The UK confirmed its commitment to supplying hundreds of air defense missiles and long-range attack drones, equipped with a range of over 125 miles.

Zelensky's visit to the UK follows his previous address to both Houses of Parliament in Westminster Hall back in February. This meeting marks a significant milestone as he becomes the first world leader hosted by Sunak at Chequers, symbolizing the deepening ties between the two nations in the face of ongoing challenges.
