British Queen celebrates

The UK is set to be hit by Storm Floris early next week, with forecasters warning of "unseasonably strong winds" and "heavy rain" across parts of the country, according to the Met Office.

The storm is expected to impact northern England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland the most, with a yellow weather warning issued from 6am Monday to 6am Tuesday.

Gusts of 40 to 50mph are likely inland, with winds of up to 60 to 70mph expected along exposed coasts and high ground. In some parts of Scotland, wind speeds could potentially reach 85mph.

The Met Office says the strongest winds will likely hit Scotland on Monday afternoon and into the night. However, they caution that there is still some uncertainty regarding the exact path and intensity of Storm Floris. Photo by Sue Adair, Wikimedia commons.
