According to a court filing in London, Prince Harry did not previously file a lawsuit against Rupert Murdoch's UK newspaper group due to a secret agreement.
Harry is currently suing News Group Newspapers (NGN), the owner of tabloids The Sun and the now-defunct News of the World, for alleged unlawful acts committed between the mid-1990s and 2016.
NGN has settled over a thousand phone-hacking cases over the past decade, and is attempting to dismiss Harry's claim and a similar case brought by actor Hugh Grant.
Harry's lawyer stated that he did not bring a lawsuit earlier due to an agreement struck between Buckingham Palace and NGN to avoid embarrassment, an agreement NGN denies. The case is one of four lawsuits Harry is currently pursuing against British publishers. The preliminary hearing is set to conclude on Thursday, with a trial due in January if it goes ahead.
