British Queen celebrates

A record number of Muslims secured seats in Britain’s parliamentary elections, despite growing Islamophobia, according to a major Muslim news outlet.

The Muslim Network reported that 25 Muslims were elected to the House of Commons, the UK's lower house of parliament, an increase from 19 in 2019.

Of those elected, 18 represent the Labour Party, four are independents, two are from the Conservative Party, and one is from the Liberal Democrats.

The outlet emphasized that Muslim voters' strong support for Gaza played a significant role in the election results, with five independent candidates, including four Muslims, winning seats.

With 3.4 million Muslims living in the UK, this election is seen as a significant milestone in the country’s political landscape, showcasing the growing diversity and the influence of Muslim communities on British politics. Photo by Berit from Redhill/Surrey, UK, Wikimedia commons.
