Russian forces targeted energy infrastructure in Ukraine's northeastern Sumy region, disrupting power in several districts and forcing authorities to rely on backup systems, local officials

reported on Tuesday.

The attack impacted critical facilities in the Konotop, Okhtyrka, and Sumy districts, with the affected infrastructure now operating on backup power, according to regional authorities on the Telegram messaging app.

Sumy's water supply facilities were also hit, losing power overnight and switching to emergency systems. Acting Sumy Mayor Artem Kobzar confirmed that there were no casualties in the city and that energy workers were addressing the damage.

Regional officials added that air defences successfully intercepted 16 drones over the area. The Ukrainian air force reported that Russia had launched 51 drones overnight, with 34 shot down by air defences across five regions. Photo by Максим Бондаревский, Wikimedia commons.
