After enjoying a brief spell of sunshine, the UK's weather is set to cool down again this weekend. However, the Met Office has forecasted a rise in temperatures in the near future.
Following Friday's record-breaking heat, which saw temperatures soar to 31.9°C at St James’ Park in central London, cooler weather and clouds are expected to dominate the weekend. Despite this, the Met Office indicates that temperatures will climb again soon.
Weekend Weather Outlook
As the weekend approaches, clouds will spread across much of the UK, with the highest temperatures limited to the east and southeast of England, where they could still reach 28°C to 29°C. Wales and southwest England are expected to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms, with similar stormy conditions possibly developing in the East and Southeast.
Future Temperature Predictions
Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan stated that temperatures might rise again "right at the end of July." While it remains uncertain if these temperatures will surpass Friday’s peak, Morgan did not rule out the possibility of even higher temperatures in August or later this month.
“There will be occasional very warm or hot spells in August,” Morgan added, though he noted there is “no strong signal” indicating prolonged or widespread high temperatures across the UK.
Rainfall and Regional Differences
East and southeast England have already experienced "almost double" the expected rainfall for July, according to Morgan. The recent sunny days have been a welcome change for many, but Scotland and Northern Ireland have yet to experience the high temperatures seen elsewhere in the UK.
Travel Advice
With the hot weather prompting more families to head to the coast, the AA has warned of busier-than-usual routes this weekend. They recommend that road users traveling in the heat use sun shields over back windows, carry iced water in the car, park in the shade, and use a windscreen shade when parked to stay cool.
