Heathrow Airport has reported its highest passenger total for a 12-month period, marking a significant milestone. The west London airport saw 81.5 million passengers
travel through its terminals in the year ending May, up from 71.6 million the previous year.
This growth includes double-digit year-on-year percentage increases in passenger numbers for routes connecting Heathrow with the UK, Europe, North America, and the Asia/Pacific region.
May was the airport's busiest month ever, with 7.2 million passengers, compared to 6.7 million in May of the previous year.
Despite recent challenges, such as last year's findings by the aviation regulator that Heathrow failed to meet minimum standards for disabled passengers, the airport has made substantial progress.
Heathrow Chief Executive Thomas Woldbye commented, "We have a winning team at Heathrow which has proven that we have put Covid firmly behind us. Thanks to their extraordinary efforts, we are now giving record numbers of people the chance to connect smoothly with the world." Photo by Adambro, Wikimedia commons.
