Princess Anne, the younger sister of King Charles III, gave an interview to the Canadian public broadcaster CBC ahead of her brother's coronation. There had been speculation that the new
king might reduce the number of "working" members of the royal family to make the monarchy smaller and cheaper for UK taxpayers.
However, Anne opposed the idea of a slimmed-down monarchy, saying that it might have been suggested "when there were a few more people around." She noted that the world had changed, and the members of the family who still serve official functions were getting older.
Anne said that she and other royal family members would likely have to "shift the way we support" the new monarch, but didn't specify what that would entail. She also acknowledged that discussions around the role and purpose of the monarchy were necessary, but emphasized the long-term stability that the institution provides.
