Arizona State University is establishing a new UK-accredited institution, ASU London, designed to blend British undergraduate education with American graduate study while offering students a
seamless transatlantic academic experience.
The launch builds on the model pioneered by The Engineering & Design Institute London (TEDI-London), founded in 2020 by ASU in partnership with King’s College London and UNSW Sydney. ASU London will absorb TEDI-London, retaining its project-based engineering programs—engineering with AI, engineering with mechatronics systems, and global design engineering—while expanding into new disciplines including business management, computer science, and electrical and electronic engineering.
The newly combined institution is preparing to relocate to a dedicated facility on the City St George’s, University of London campus.
A dual-degree pathway across two countries
ASU London will offer students the option to earn two internationally recognised degrees in four years: a three-year UK bachelor’s degree followed by an optional one-year accelerated master’s at Arizona State University in the US. Students will also gain eligibility to work in the United States after graduating, while US-based students will have a built-in opportunity to study abroad in London.
ASU president Michael M. Crow said the new venture is designed for a global era that demands adaptable, analytically minded graduates.
“ASU London helps students to become master problem solvers who can succeed in the evolving global economy,” Crow said. “It combines the appeal of British higher education and American innovation in applied learning, all from one of the world’s great cities.”
Crow added that the initiative responds directly to the pressures facing today’s students by offering “a compelling new way” to gain both international experience and strong career preparation in the UK and US.
Industry-aligned, globally connected
According to ASU London, its programs will be developed jointly by academics in both countries and shaped with input from industry leaders to ensure students gain practical, real-world skills. ASU faculty will teach select courses both in person and online.
ASU’s broader reputation underpins the new institution’s ambitions. Known for its “New American University” model—focused on access, innovation, and public impact—ASU has been ranked the No. 1 university in the US for innovation for 11 consecutive years by U.S. News & World Report. Its work in sustainability, research, and global engagement is frequently recognised in international rankings.
Reflecting on the launch, Malcolm Grant, chair of ASU London’s board of trustee directors, emphasised that the institution’s approach breaks from traditional academic structures.
“ASU London allows students to learn as professionals in training—working on real projects, developing technical, professional and leadership skills sought by employers worldwide,” he said.
