British Queen celebrates

The UK and the US are set to deepen their longstanding economic and security partnership, which has made them indispensable allies and trade partners for

over 80 years. A new Strategic Dialogue will launch in London, aiming to further enhance the "special relationship" between the two nations.

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy will welcome US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to the UK for the first time since assuming his role. Together, they will inaugurate the UK-US Strategic Dialogue, designed to forge an even closer partnership that promotes both growth and security on both sides of the Atlantic.

The discussions will cover a wide range of key issues where both countries are closely aligned, including continued support for Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression, de-escalation efforts in the Middle East, and broader global priorities such as defense, security, and fostering resilient and sustainable economic growth.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy said:

“The UK has no greater friend than America. The special relationship has been cherished on both sides of the Atlantic for more than 80 years, but together we are committed to supercharging our alliance to bring security and growth to Brits and Americans alike.”

In a more volatile and insecure world, it is even more important that we are highly aligned nations. Together we are re-energising our economic partnership, working together to tackle insecurity abroad and facing the future in unity and confidence”.

In a world that has become increasingly volatile, Lammy emphasized the importance of maintaining strong alignment between the UK and the US. He highlighted the mutual goal of reinvigorating the economic partnership, tackling insecurity abroad, and addressing future challenges with unity and confidence.

The Strategic Dialogue will focus on key aspects of the UK-US relationship, including defense and security cooperation, developments in Europe, the Middle East, the Indo-Pacific region, and the economic opportunities that arise from a strengthened partnership. Both nations already share a significant $1 trillion investment relationship, and this enhanced collaboration is expected to create even more opportunities for businesses and citizens.

The Foreign Secretary and Secretary Blinken previously met at the NATO Summit in Washington DC in July. They aim to make the Strategic Dialogue an annual event, ensuring that the benefits of the special relationship are fully realized in the UK, the US, and globally.

The talks will also reinforce the UK and US's shared commitment to promoting stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region, with discussions expected to include their joint efforts through the AUKUS security partnership. Photo by Tvabutzku1234, Wikimedia commons.
