British Queen celebrates

Rwandan President Paul Kagame has suggested that the UK could get its money back if no asylum seekers are sent to Rwanda under the current deal with the government.

The UK has paid £240 million to Rwanda, with an additional £50 million to come. So far, no asylum seekers have been sent to the country. President Kagame stated that the money would only be used if the asylum seekers were sent, and if they do not come, the funds could be returned.

This announcement comes as UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak faces a crucial vote on his Rwanda bill, which proposes deporting some asylum seekers to Rwanda as a deterrent for those attempting to cross the English Channel in small boats. The bill has faced opposition from Labour and some Tory MPs, with concerns about its effectiveness and adherence to international law. Photo by Hildenbrand /MSC, Wikimedia commons.
